- Abstract
The article discusses the role of compounding, which refers to a process whereby two free morphemes are combined as one word, in Technical English prescribed for engineering students in Tamilnadu, India. A brief background of this process is offered. It stresses the need for English teachers in the colleges of engineering to give the students various exercises without using any linguistic jargon to avoid confusion. Also listed are different key processes of compounding in English, available in most books on English grammar.
