- Abstract
The article presents a doctoral dissertation on the status of foreign trade in the Madras Presidency, India. The main items exported from the country in the pre-colonial period were cotton textiles, wheat and spices. It discusses the change in the nation's commodity pattern which affected its foreign trade pattern and thereby ruining its traditional handicrafts. The impact of colonialism on the nation's foreign trade is also mentioned.
