- Abstract
According to a United Nations report, the number of people affected by hunger has risen to 828 million, an increase of about 150 million since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Food insecurity is growing, with nearly 258 million people across 58 countries facing higher levels of food insecurity in 2022. Women are disproportionately affected by food insecurity, with 32% of women being moderately or severely food insecure compared to 27.6% of men. Improving women farmers' access to resources, technologies, markets, and property rights can help increase agricultural productivity and improve household nutrition. By providing women the same resources as men, agricultural output could increase by 4% and reduce the number of hungry people in the world by 12 to 17%.
