- Abstract
"Dangerous Fun: The Social Lives of Big Wave Surfers" by Ugo Corte is an ethnographic study that explores the social phenomenon of big wave surfing. Corte combines the disciplines of sociology, crime, and leisure with theories of ritual powers to understand the seductions of danger and risk-taking. Through fieldwork, interviews, and personal experiences, Corte examines how big wave surfers navigate fateful moments and emotional energy within their leisure world. The book highlights the importance of community, mentorship, and shared narratives in shaping the identities and experiences of big wave surfers.
