- Abstract
The article discusses versification in Victorian poetry of the nineteenth century. The writings of authors E. S. Dallas and Coventry Patmore on prosody are examined. Of particular interest is the transition, during the mid-nineteenth century, towards a more abstract approach to prosody. Other topics include verse scientists, a scientific approach to studying poetry during that century, and harmonics.
