Short stories published in the collection 'The Ways of White Folks'; Ways in which Hughes' experiences in the Soviet Union promotes a rethinking of interracial alliances, kinship structures and black American masculinity; Ways in which slippage offers a possibility for difference within the structure of representative black masculine desire.
