- Abstract
This article explores the establishment of libraries in the Jewish settlements in the provinces of Chaco, Santiago del Estero, Rio Negro and La Pampa, which occurred when the Jews migrating from Eastern Europe started to arrive in Argentina in 1889. The main topics covered are the library's development as educational and social centers where the settlers found a space to interact after a daylong work on the fields; how these libraries were established, and the support and funding provided. As the children of the first settlers migrated to cities, these libraries and their materials disappeared, resulting in the loss of the archives, which could tell us their stories. Through the settler's memories we read about the hardships they had to face and the joys they managed to enjoy during the hard period of adaptation to the Argentine soil.
