- Abstract
This article presents the policy of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) on physical restraint and seclusion procedures in school settings. In general, the CEC supports the least restrictive positive educational strategies with regard to the student's dignity and especially as it pertains to physical restraint and seclusion. The article presents the CEC's definition of what constitutes physical restraint and seclusion and notes that it is the means of controlling the student's movement for the purpose of maintaining safety for both the student, other students, and staff when a student is out of control.
