- Abstract
The article reports on a study of the relationship between humpback whales in New Zealand waters and known breeding sites in the Oceania region. Individual identification photographs of adult humpback have been gathered throughout the Oceania region since 1991. Results strongly indicate that there are connections between the humpback whales migrating through New Zealand waters with Breeding Stock E. However, their key wintering destination is still unknown. Data also indicate that there is a possible connection between the humpback whales in New Zealand waters and those in Fiji wintering grounds.
