- Abstract
Presents an interview with Juana Montañes Avila, a 63-year-old folk healer who was born and raised in Mata Clara in Veracruz, Mexico. She describes how she cures the physical and spiritual ills of people from communities like Tres Valles and Yanga. She reacts to most Mata Clara residents' perception that folk healers are witches. She also discusses her ability to read the future using cards, her instruments of healing, her religion, and her decision to stay in Mata Clara. This interview was translated by Ana Martinez.
