- Abstract
The article provides an overview related to Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles and programs, local governmental legal mechanisms and regulatory devices implemented in the U.S. According to the author, preventing crime and reducing the fear of crime continues to be top priorities of citizens and city officials in the country and elsewhere around the world. The goals of CPTED include to increase public safety and to promote a sense of physical security though the physical design and a well planned built environment. Thus, CPTED principles tries to reduce opportunities for crime by making it difficult, more risky and less rewarding.
