- Title
THE PROSPECTS FOR IMMIGRATION AMENDMENTS.
- Authors
ROSENFIELD, HARRY N.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the prospects for amendment to the U.S. immigration law, the McCarran-Walter Act of 1952, and various factors that can work for or against the revision. It mentions three kinds of issues involved with the immigration laws including the general policy issues such as the number of aliens to be admitted and the method of selection, specific policy issues such as grounds for excluding or deporting aliens, and technical issues. It discusses the immigration as a partisan issue, the political platforms on immigration of the Democratic Party and the Republicans during presidential elections in years including 1948, 1952 and 1956, the role of the president in bringing amendment to the present law, and the attitude of the American people.
