The surface of carbon nanotubes was studied on an atomic resolution level in a scanning tunneling microscope (STM) operating under atmospheric conditions. The nanotubes were synthesized from a carbon mix of high reaction ability. Factors determining distortion of the STM image are analyzed and the main parameters (chiral angle and diameter) of nanotubes are calculated.
