- Abstract
This work focuses on the discussion that the figure of Marcel Duchamp --whose famous Fountain turns one hundred years old in 2017-- generates in two works of the conspicuous American philosopher Arthur Danto and Jean Clair, former director of the Picasso Museum in Paris. It exposes the problems that Duchamp brings to both critics, and from that debate draws some leads to the problem of the definition of art, considered one of the core problems of contemporary Aesthetics. Its purpose is to try to contribute to the understanding of the origins of this problem considering artistic practice, in particular the case of Marcel Duchamp, considered as the figure that triggers the problem.
