- Abstract
This article highlights the most significant characteristics of arbitration in the UAE. Referring to local courts' judgments, the article demonstrates some of the differences and problems that may arise in practice when proceeding with arbitration disputes. The article examines, among other matters, the different types of arbitration and the legal capacity to enter into an arbitration agreement. It also observes the selection of the arbitrator, his qualifications, and grounds for challenging his authority. Moreover, the article shows some keynotes of the procedural matters that distinguish the arbitral proceedings in the UAE. Finally, the article shows the requirement for rendering the arbitral award, the need to deposit it in order to enforce it, and the exclusive grounds for the annulment of an award.
