- Title
Philip Melanchthon on Bible Translation and Commentaries.
- Authors
Wengert, Timothy J.
- Abstract
To correct the scholarly tradition which holds Melanchthon in low esteem as an interpreter of the Bible, the essay examines the developmental history and substance of Melanchthon's interpretative approach to scripture which consisted of a number of classical elements developed under the emerging humanism of the time—grammar, rhetorics, dialectics—in the interest of producing a translated text and theological commentary for the church's use of its scripture.
