- Abstract
This article discusses research that investigated the efficacy of piperonyl-butoxide (PBO) with deltamethrin, as a pyrethroid insecticide, against the larvae of five different species of mosquitoe. These species include Aedes aegypti, Anopheles culicifacies, and Culex quinqufasciatus. The investigation stems from the fact that liberal use of pesticides to maintain public health and agricultural integrity in tropical countries has led numerous vector populations to develop resistance to organochlorides, organophosphates and even carbamates. The researchers yielded positive results, finding that PBO is an effective synergist for decreasing the use of pesticides.
