- Abstract
We offer in this work two poems (one from the 17th century, another one from the 19th century) which show a different linguistic testimony of the use of Asturian in two nearby centuries. In the first case, a poem written in Castilian in Asturies, is linguistically mixed with Portuguese and Asturian like features. In the second case a poem from 1843, virtually unknow to the reading public, is reviewed; it is fully written in Asturian and it presents a well constructed type of language, following a northeastern like model, which is linked to other literary manifestations that were also printed in the same time. It would be then understood that Asturian literature, with the collection of written materials from the middle and modern ages, which were little known in general terms, may be reinforced in the objective of collaborating to a larger edition of materials that go beyond and far away from those already known in the History of Asturian Literature published by the Asturian Language Academy in 2002. The collections of recovery of texts that this academic institution has been publishing with particular care since its origin, seem to offer a suitable path leads to a better knowledge of a language that has a more valuable continued written tradition than what could be expected at first.
