- Abstract
The article offers information on the first case of an outbreak of Rice stripe virus (RSV) on wheat in China. A disease outbreak was examined on wheat in Jiangsu province, China, in 2004 and 2005. The outbreak affected plants showing yellow stripe symptoms. RSV was detected in leaf samples from the affected province, using RSV-specific monoclonal antibodies. It is found out that the outbreak affected eighty-four percent of wheat fields in 2005. Small brown planthopper, an insect known vector of RSV, transmitted the virus to other healthy wheat plants.
