- Abstract
This article is a response to a correspondence titled "Management of iridocorneal endothelial syndrome from a cornea and glaucoma perspective." The authors express gratitude for the positive comments on their original article comparing different keratoplasty techniques for patients with iridocorneal endothelial syndrome (ICE). They agree that close follow-up and surgical intervention by specialists experienced in both cornea and glaucoma are ideal. The study found poor long-term corneal graft survival in ICE syndrome patients compared to other indications, with higher median graft survival after penetrating keratoplasty (PK) compared to Descemet stripping endothelial keratoplasty (DS(A)EK). However, they acknowledge the advantages of DS(A)EK over PK in terms of refractive outcome, visual recovery, and tectonic stability. The authors appreciate the insights and suggestions provided, emphasizing the need for careful consideration of further surgical interventions and complex strategies to achieve the best outcome for ICE syndrome patients. They also highlight that the choice of graft type should be based on individual patient factors and surgeon preference. The study was funded by the Australian Organ and Tissue Authority, and the authors declare no conflicts of interest.
