- Abstract
This article reports on the need for U.S. employers to include Form I-9 compliance in their overall risk management strategies. The estimated amount of fines imposed by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on employers due to worksite violations was 50 million U.S. dollars. In December, IFCO Systems North America paid a civil fine for failing to implement a compliant Form I-9 process that led to the hiring of illegal immigrants. Also included are information on steps involved in making Form I-9 compliance a priority in risk management.
