- Authors
Gray, Carol Lippert
- Abstract
The article discusses the use of social skills to defuse emotional situations in management and to open opportunities for career advancement. Good communicative skills help managers become recognized for their leadership abilities, reduce stress in the workplace, establish better relationships with superiors and subordinates, and increase job satisfaction. Two books are mentioned: "Take Yourself to the Top--The Secrets of America's Number One Career Coach," by Laura Berman Fortgang; and "The Articulate Executive--Learn to Look, Act and Sound Like a Leader," by Granville Toogood. Carl Nolan, controller at Vignelli Associates, and David Morris, managing partner in executive search at Heidrick & Struggles, comment on soft skills.
