- Abstract
Taxonomical descriptions and ecological records are given of two new species of Mesostoma from Australia: Mesostoma appinum sp.n. and Mesostoma magnum sp.n. Externally, M. appinum resembles other species of the M. lingua group, but internally the combination of a thin-walled copulatory organ, a large penis papilla and the appearance of epithelium differentiates it from similar species. Mesostoma magnum is a large and darkly pigmented species. Its characteristic features include a large copulatory organ, follicular testicles and a differentiated atrium. Both species are efficient predators of mosquito larvae and Daphnia.
