- Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to deconstruct the hegemonic medical thinking has influenced the production of scientific knowledge about the disease and mental health, the aim is to question the dominant paradigm, defined primarily within the positivist camp. An approach to the understanding of mental health and illness look to build another existing intended. It seeks to make visible aspects that have been subordinated or unnoticed by other views, in order to put into game concepts that facilitate moving the discourse in the space of knowledge has become entrenched and hardened, looking subject as a historical and individual entity, focusing especially in biological internal variables of the subject. The natural and the social sciences should be complementary to a good understanding of social reality, that is why social medicine generates a momentous point in health and disease.
