- Abstract
The Meliaceae trees cultivated in Brazil, such as cedar and Brazilian mahogany, African mahogany, Australian cedar and Indian neem, have been prominent in the Brazilian forest sector, mainly in the furniture segment. The choice of forest investors for these species is due to the advantages they present in qualitative and economic terms. However, studies and research to improve the silvicultural treatments of Meliaceae trees and consequently increase the productivity of the stands are still incipient. Thus, the present review aimed to gather and present the main silvicultural practices, reported in the literature, that have been applied for the cultivation of Meliaceae in Brazil. Topics such as the description of the species and uses of the wood, operations common to the crop, silvicultural aspects, plagues and diseases of the culture were approached.
