- Abstract
The article reports that Nigerian President Umaru Yar'Adua has announced its intention to restructure the country's state owned oil company, Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. (NNPC), and its various subsidiaries. Yar'Adua plans to shift most of the NNPC's functions to five companies, with a national energy council to oversee the sector as a whole. He will lead the National Energy Council which has been tasked with restructuring the NNPC within six months. NNPC is responsible for the regulation of the oil and gas industry, through the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR).
