- Abstract
The freshwater brown alga I Bodanella lauterbornii i W.M. Zimmermann was first found on the Molasse walls by Lauterborn and recognized and described as a new species by Zimmermann. Did zebra mussel fill the type habitat of a worldwide-rare freshwater brown macroalga? The biogeography of freshwater benthic (macro)algae is largely understudied but recent research, supported by molecular data, has shown that there are many taxa with restricted distributions as well as widely distributed species (Wehr, 2015).
