- Abstract
The article presents a study on the implications for monitoring and management of harbour seal movements and haul-out patterns in Scotland. The study primarily explores movements and haul-out structures by deploying satellite transmitters on 24 harbour seals in the western part of the country. Significant details of the study are included, showing the proportion of time harbour seals spend hauled out in terms of spatial, temporal and sex aspects. In addition, results determine the variable application of haul-out sites with low or high fidelity, such that low fidelity sites may be used as a network of a land-based protected areas while high-fidelity haul out sites may form reserve management units.
