BANDERITAS AMERICANAS: TERRORISMO Y PATRIOTISMO EN BAJO LOS RASCACIELOS, DE J. LÓPEZ MOZO.
- Authors
DOLL, Eileen J.
- Abstract
In his play Bajo los rascacielos, the Spanish dramatist Jerónimo López Mozo displays, in his American characters, several of the reactions of fear that surfaced after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack in New York City. He studies the patriotism of emotion, flag-waving and militarism-and specifically the hypocrisy behind it-things identified as particularly American phenomena. For that reason he makes use of American stereotypes. This is not the first time this playwright has analyzed terrorism, but here he examines it from outside, beyond the borders where it happened, and using the rhetoric of terror.
