- Abstract
The article examines the evolution of Pici fossil uncovered in Europe. It is said that the uncovered fossil was renamed and is known to be the smallest member of the Pici family and the earliest fossil representatives. The fossil deposited in Staatliches Museum für Naturkunde in Karlsruhe, Germany were taken into account for the study. The skeleton was examined, measured and its description and comparison were recorded. Results have been evaluated and indicates that during the period of limited food availability, competition among insectivorous passeriform birds has played a major role in the extinction of the tiny Pici in Europe.
