- Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To establish easy access biomarkers to predict risk of peritonitis and proper response to treatment. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Study of cases and controls which included subjects with a diagnosis of chronic kidney disease with replacement treatment through peritoneal dialysis and who presented peritonitis, from January 2019 to January 2020. The statistical program STATA 12 was used for statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon rank sum test, ROC curves, and logistic regression analysis to calculate odds ratios. RESULTS: A population of 60 subjects was studied, divided into two paired groups of 30 subjects (cases and controls). In the cases group the median of neutrophile-lymphocyte ratio was 6 (RI 6.83; p = 0.0024). In addition, logistic regression was performed obtaining an odds ratio of 4.97, with p = 0.014, with 95% confidence intervals (1.38-17.81) being statistically significant, with an area under the curve of 0.73. A χ² test was also performed, where a difference (p = 0.047) was observed in terms of bacterial growth in culture and an INL greater than 2.89. CONCLUSIONS: An association was found between the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio and dialysis related peritonitis. With 4.97 times greater probability of presenting this disease if the neutrophile-lymphocyte ratio is greater than 2.89, in addition to a greater probability of bacterial development in culture.
