- Abstract
Violence against women in childbirth is a recurring theme in Brazilian society. Explicit or veiled, obstetric violence against pregnant women is presented in this study as a result of the excessive medicalization of childbirth process, which submits the pregnant woman an absolute invisibility process as a result of medical knowledge-power that is imposed in the mold Foucault’s philosophy. In this sense, we try to understand, from the phenomenological method, the extent to which women victims of such violence can be considered a “naked life” under the category developed in the work of the Italian philosopher Giorgio Agamben.
