- Title
Glutathione S-transferase omega genes in Alzheimer and Parkinson disease risk, age-at-diagnosis and brain gene expression: an association study with mechanistic implications.
- Abstract
The article presents a study on the association of glutathione S-transferase omega-1 and 2 genes (GSTO1 and GSTO2) polymorphisms with risk, age-at-diagnosis and brain gene expression levels of Alzheimer disease (AD) and Parkinson disease (PD). It shows that variants of GSTO1 locus may reduce brain GSTO2 levels and present AD risk in older people. It stresses the need for other glutathione metabolism genes to be evaluated for their impacts on AD and other chronic and neurologic diseases.
