- Abstract
This article discusses the prevalence and impact of period pain (dysmenorrhoea) in teenagers who menstruate. It highlights that many adolescents do not seek healthcare for their pain due to various reasons, including thinking it is normal or not knowing if it is serious. The article also explores the symptoms, natural history, and potential underlying causes of dysmenorrhoea in adolescents. It provides guidance for assessing and treating menstrual pain in primary care, emphasizing the importance of validating young people's experiences and considering their preferences. The article concludes by emphasizing the need for prompt treatment and support for teenagers with menstrual pain.
