- Abstract
Dentro de la comunidad científica en general, y más concretamente en el sector de la investigación preclínica, se viene debatiendo desde hace años la necesidad de un cambio. Un cambio cultural para mejorar el rigor de la investigación y la reproducibilidad de los resultados, así como los análisis y la interpretación1–3. Las mejores prácticas han evolucionado rápidamente durante este tiempo para facilitar el cumplimiento de las expectativas revisadas. Pero la concienciación y la aplicación de esta evolución en las prácticas de investigación responsable no siempre se consideran una prioridad absoluta por parte de los individuos o las organizaciones. La mentalidad, la ambición y la creencia son los obstáculos más comunes que hay que superar cuando se pretende lograr un cambio cultural4. Por esto, este artículo se centra en la mentalidad y la cultura de la investigación. Asimismo, trata de arrojar luz sobre cómo la mentalidad de un individuo puede afectar a su capacidad para aplicar cambios e influir en las personas que trabajan con dicho individuo. Durante más de 30 años, los investigadores han estudiado cómo la forma en que una persona se ve a sí misma influye en su mentalidad y afecta a su reacción ante diversas experiencias, así como a las decisiones que toma. Los datos sugieren que puede ser esclarecedor para los individuos tener conciencia de las distintas mentalidades, de manera que puedan identificar los rasgos y los desencadenantes de la mentalidad personal, así como comprender el comportamiento de las otras personas que trabajan a su alrededor5. Para los educadores, mentores y supervisores, la capacidad de identificar y respaldar a las personas para que cambien, desarrollen o mantengan las características de la mentalidad puede contribuir a la consecución de los resultados del aprendizaje5. En el caso de los grupos de investigación, los institutos y las organizaciones, el conocimiento de las mentalidades y el impacto que tienen en la cultura de la investigación puede servir de base para los debates y las decisiones sobre cómo se aconsejan o desaconsejan, se desarrollan y se respaldan o se premian los comportamientos para facilitar el cambio5. En este artículo se analizan las ideas actuales sobre la mentalidad humana y se dan ejemplos ilustrativos para aportar ideas en el contexto de la investigación en laboratorio. Se espera que esta información ayude a los científicos a reflexionar sobre su propia mentalidad y sobre el modo en que esta puede influir en la calidad y la realización de sus investigaciones, así como en la conducta de las personas que trabajan a su alrededor. Estas reflexiones podrían contribuir al éxito de las iniciativas que pretenden resolver la crisis de reproducibilidad y a los esfuerzos por lograr un cambio cultural en el sector de la investigación preclínica.
