- Abstract
The article discusses the legislative and regulatory environment for nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) or civil society organizations in Botswana. It also explores the state-civil society relations in the country as well as the legal environment under which NGOs operate and the registration requirements and processes. Moreover, it emphasizes the constraints faced by NGOs and the impact of legislation on their operations. It also mentions that lack of financial independency and resultant dependency on government and donor funding was the major challenge faced by civil society organizations.
