- Title
HUMAN HEAD EFFIGY FOUND AT THE EBBERT SPRING SITE (36FR367), FRANKLIN COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA.
- Authors
POWELL, RONALD D.
- Abstract
The article chronicles the discovery and excavation of a clay effigy of a human head at the Ebbert Spring site in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. It provides a physical description of the effigy complete with measurements, speculates that it was made by members of the Clemson Island culture due to evidence found in other artifacts from the site, and hypothesizes that the effigy would have been used in a shamanistic ritual as found in similarly constructed artifacts.
