- Abstract
This paper focuses on the feudal and genealogical narratives within the Kingdom of Naples through the analysis of Famiglie nobili delli tre seggi della città di Salerno, the so-called Manoscritto Pinto. The book traces the genealogies of 98 noble families aggregated to the "seggi" of Salerno (Campo, Portarotese and Portanova). The Manoscritto Pinto is studied comparatively so as to identify those family strategies aiming at the creation of "genealogie incredibili", and also the legitimization of their status within the town. In fact, their status was expected to come from an ancient aristocracy based on blood purity, and that was in response to the State "honour" policies, especially after Charles of Bourbon's Tavola della nobiltà (1756). Like other similar texts, the Manoscritto Pinto circulated on a large scale between the Modern and the Contemporary Ages.
