- Abstract
Examines the role of plasma aluminum in the detection and prevention of aluminum toxicity through a prospective study of the value of plasma and dialysis fluid aluminum measurement in patients with chronic renal failure, particularly those treated with hemodialysis. Significant reduction in plasma aluminum following the introduction of reverse osmosis (RO) water treatment; Significant correlation between plasma aluminum in hemodialysis patients before the introduction of RO and plasma aluminum in the same patients after introduction of RO; Indication that regular monitoring of both dialysis fluid and plasma aluminum is the most reliable means of detecting exposure to aluminum as well as the source of exposure.
