- Abstract
This article underlines the ways in which, at least in the Chilean case, truth commissions are an incarnation of a policy that was central to modern nation-state formation during the 19th and 20th centuries. Processes labeled as national reconciliation became significant elements in ending civil wars. A brief background about the political crises in Chile from 1818 to 2006 is presented. La vía chilena de reconciliación política, a Chilean way of political reconciliation, is discussed.
