- Title
Medjugorje et Krăstova Gora dans la longue durée : Partage et contruction de frontières dans deux pèlerinages chrétiens des Balkans.
- Authors
Valtchinova, Galina
- Abstract
The article undertakes a comparative analysis of a Catholic and an Orthodox pilgrimage site in the Balkans, and their interaction with the surrounding Muslim communities. Against the backdrop of the violent collapse of the Yugoslav model of ethnic and religious cohabitation, the author proposes to rethink the notion of frontier as an impermanent, continuously renegotiated construction, which can constitute a point of encounter and exchange, or reversely, operate as an economy of exclusion. In her analysis of the sociological and historical context, she shows the complexity and inherent ambiguity of the processes that make frontiers more permeable or prone to engender conflicts.
