- Abstract
Engineers at the Institute for Technologies of Metals (ITM) at the University of Duisburg-Essen, together with Fritz Winter Eisengießerei GmbH & Co. KG and the FEhS – Building Materials Institute e.V., have developed a process to desulfurize molten iron and produce spheroidal graphite cast iron without using magnesium. This process reduces the foundry industry's dependence on global raw material markets and offers environmental and cost advantages. The Supercritical Transformational Electric Power (STEP) Demo pilot plant at Southwest Research Institute has generated electricity for the first time using supercritical carbon dioxide (sCO2) power cycles, which increase efficiency. Evonik Industries has inaugurated a new sustainable biosurfactant plant in Slovakia, producing rhamnolipid biosurfactants from renewable corn feedstocks. BioBTX has secured funding to launch the world's first renewable chemicals plant, using Integrated Cascading Catalytic Pyrolysis (ICCP) technology to produce sustainable aromatics from plastic waste and biomass. Trillium Renewable Chemicals has selected INEOS Nitriles' Green Lake facility to establish the world's first demonstration plant for converting plant-based glycerol into acrylonitrile. Researchers at VTT Technical Research Center of Finland have used AI and synthetic biology to accelerate the development of new biomaterials. Valmet Oyj will supply its DNA Automation technology to the data center heat-recovery concept developed by Fort
