- Abstract
The article focuses on the new legislation on medical wastes, which prevents pharmaceuticals from polluting the Great Lakes, source of many municipal drinking water in Illinois. Scientific studies show damaging environmental impact when drugs are disposed in water. This practice reportedly wrecks havoc on aquatic ecosystem and pollutes drinking water. Comments from Charlotte Smith, director of PharmaEcology Services and Bill Soucie, a water-quality lab supervisor from Lake Bluff, Illinois, on the issue are mentioned.
