- Abstract
The authors present the case of a 17-year-old ice hockey player who sustained a head injury with a fracture of the right temporal bone during training. The consequences of the injury included severe peripheral vertigo with nystagmus, vegetative symptoms and hearing loss. The dizziness disappeared on the 4th day after the injury, but the hearing loss turned out to be permanent. The patient returned to daily training sessions 5 weeks after the injury. What is noteworthy in this case is the exceptionally quick compensation of the labyrinthine damage, which, in the authors' opinion, was not only due to the player's young age, but also to his strong motivation to return to the ice rink.
