- Title
An African Dilemma.
- Authors
Lyman, Abra; Kew, Darren
- Abstract
The article discusses the conflict between the African state of Kenya and indigenous groups Maasai and Ogiek over land ownership and control. It examines the origins of land conflicts, the ways in which such conflicts could be effectively managed, and the policy implications of the said conflict for indigenous peoples. It looks into how issues including identity, respect, self-determination, and government corruption are associated with the conflicts that indigenous peoples face across the country and how the Kenyan legal system failed to recognize the concept of traditional native land title which means original indigenous ownership of the land and distinct existence of indigenous peoples from other Kenyan citizens.
