- Abstract
The author examines the response of Peter Kalenik, a mathematics teacher at Orchard Park Middle School, to the article by Charles F. Marion in the April 2010 issue. He quotes Peter's words in explaining that the primitive Pythagorean triples that his class noticed was no fluke. He explains the Pythagorean problem on the state assessment leading to a handful of students being penalized for giving a correct answer. He concludes that in the current and proposed assessment schemes, the state tests play too heavy a role.
