- Authors

- Abstract
The article focuses on shedding new light on Lucy Terry Prince, the earliest known Black American poet, through the discovery of two excerpts from the Hampshire Gazette in 1818. These excerpts provide insight into the circumstances of Prince's composition, suggesting that her literary output might have been more extensive than previously believed and raising questions about her standing as the inaugurator of Black American verse.
