76 Companies Apply for Baidrige Award.
- Abstract
Among the 76 companies that applied to the 1993 Malcom Baldrige National Quality Award are 32 manufacturing firms, 13 service companies, and 31 small businesses. "While the award is the centerpiece, it is important to remember the program is more than a contest," said Curt Reimann, the director for quality programs at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. The award has helped to stimulate a grass-roots effort throughout the U.S. and the world to improve quality in many organizations. More than 1 million copies of the award criteria are used world-wide, according to Reimann, as blueprints of how to set up quality improvement programs.
