- Abstract
The article focuses on the comparison between two main models that have been developed within Systemic-Functional Linguistics to analyse the functions of utterances in dialogue. Topics include the speech functions of the English clause are coded by mood, polarity and modality; mentions the subset of tag questions (TQs) used to elicit knowledge or action; and also mentions data-based studies of TQs have noted that types of responses are indicative of the interactional meanings of TQs.
