- Abstract
The article focuses on the mechanism of nitrogen emission in the gas phase in the crystallization of high-nitrogen steels and alloys. The authors views that the use and production of nitrogen-alloy steels is limited by the insufficient development of such manufacturing processes as liquid-state nitrogen saturation, prevention of nitrogen bubbles in crystallization, and densification of the ingot. Microingots of high-purity iron and steel were obtained by melting in a suspended state in atmospheres of nitrogen and argon at various temperatures of the melt. The evaluation shows that the mass fraction of nitrogen that goes into bubbles in crystallization is low and does not substantially affect the final concentration of nitrogen in the solid metal.
